Cutwater, a journal of exceptionally high esteem and literary quality, edited by the dashing Sam Twyford-Moore (who we interviewed and wrote a feature on way back when) is printed, launched and heaps exciting.
You should really own a copy so we’re going to help you out and offer a couple of them as freebies for the creative ones amongst you.
I don’t know what a cutwater actually is so I googled it, and I got this:
Noun
cutwater (plural cutwaters)
1. (nautical) The forward curve of the stem of a ship
2. the wedge of a bridge pier, that resists the flow of water and ice.
3. a black skimmer; a sea bird of Rhynchops niger species, that flies low over the sea, “cutting” the water surface with its lower mandible to catch small fish.
We’re not pedantic, but if you can write an extremely short story involving all of these things, and also a gorilla, we’ll give you a book.
If you’re interested, email info [at] throwshapes [dot] com [dot] au and if you’re lucky, sneaky, pretty or cunning enough, we’ll send you a beautiful journal full of new and inspiring young Australian writers’ recent and best work.
Be quick, we’ve only got a couple and if you wait too long they might mysteriously disappear in to our bookcases. Get in before the 7th of August, which is the end of next week.
