Once, when my kitten was still adorable and didn’t maul my arms violently every night – when he was small enough to play with things without destroying them – I had friends over for post-night-out-drunken-further-drinking-and-heater-warmth, and we, being the cool kids we are, put on some records. To our collective delight the kitten jumped up and started pawing the spinning record, fascinated by it and, apparently, interested in some scratching (mind the pun).
This is because everyone in the world, seriously everyone including kittens, enjoys vinyl, or wishes they enjoyed vinyl, or thinks about people enjoying vinyl and imagines they were standing next to them, looking on adoringly.
But I have said this before. It is not really very exciting to find different, vaguely sentimental anecdotes to express my love of vinyl. Instead, I will encourage you to tune in to 2SER (107.3) on next Wednesday August 12, because they will be playing vinyl only from midday to minight for a day of crackly, scratchy, spinning goodness, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Thomas Edison (that old champ) who invented the first working phonograph. International Vinyl Record Day will be celebrated at 2SER with vinyly prizes for your hot little hands if you tune your cool little ears in to their station, or listen online through their stream.
