The Seed, nee: the JB Seed (as in the founder John Butler), is back for 2010 with a new website and a bit of a more inclusive focus. And they want to give you money. Remember money?
This year there are three categories. Art for the Public offers grants of up to $5000 for artists who shake-up the urban landscape, bringing art in an innovative way to public spaces. It’s for projects that are set to commence after June 1 2010, and we know for a fact there’s hundreds of Sydney-based eligible artists and collectives who totally get off on doing this kind of thing, so why not try and get money for it?
For the more musically inclined the Management Workshop Initiative is back, offering 24 managers of emerging bands (or self-managed artists) transport, food and free accommodation to check out workshops from a bunch of industry professionals. There’s no money in there, but a big old shmooze-fest is invaluable – plus one band represented will get to play at both Falls Festival AND Southbound Festival. THOSE ARE BOTH KIND OF PRETTY BIG FESTIVALS.
Lastly, Skinnyfish Music – a label, distributor and publisher of Indigenous music – has partnered up with the Seed for the Indigenous Community Music Initiative, where they create paid performance opportunities for Indigenous artists within remote Indigenous communities, to help support the artists and music within their community.
Applications are due March 15. That site again, here.
