The one thing we forgot to mention in our ridiculously lengthy Laneway review was the wonderful oasis that the thousands had set up in one of the only shaded inside-time areas offered by the festival site. In a teensy and local version of their new Melbourne shop, the market held art, clothes, food (Black Star Bakery ahoy!) and bric-a-brac – and a stall for our favourites Even Books, who had sold so much stuff by 2pm that when I showed up all that was left was the last tote. Sold.
This latest gatecrash is a short autobiographical homage (read: shameless self-promotion) to Even Books’ very own new little Etsy store where, on top of selling other things, they pick books for you because they know what they’re doing. After the jump.

For their first gatecrash in 2010, Alice F and Angela B of even books tackle ‘those skanky skulkers on your bookshelf that just wont leave the party, and you’re not sure who invited them in the first place anyway’. It’s their homage to AwfulLibraryBooks.com – and it comes with photographic evidence that yes they actually own these books. After the jump!

This Saturday night holds the tenth Even Books, this time at Fraser Studios in Chippendale – ‘Mountain Dream Tarot & Jean Dubuffet’. So yes, everybody flip to the chapter on art, please. The focus is on Bea Nettles‘ Mountain Dream Tarot (photographic tarot deck woman) and Jean DuBuffet’s whole raw/outsider art concept thing (learning!). Which is why No Art are playing, and why there’s a throw-paint-on-stuff corner, and why there’s a real life Tarot reader, and why there’s cut-up art theory fun, and why you should go.
We asked some of our favourites, Angela and Alice, to explain it in their own words to each other. Maybe they did, who knows, but all we really took from the whole thing is that they are insane and should never talk to each other again. But they can go ahead and make as much art as they want, because it’s raw and pure and untainted by societal discourse and cultural boundaries and all of that. All of what? What? You’ll find What, after the jump…

Will Self wrote another book last year. Even Books read it and wrote him a letter. Will, if you’re on our site (again) (Seriously Will, what’s with you loving us so much? Everyone’s all like, ‘Oh hey Will Self, there’s this incredible party happening tonight in Shoreditch for you to be fabulous at’ and you’re all, ’sorry guys, Throw Shapes just updated their blog’), click ‘Read More’.

For their column this week, Even Books took their books, their cameras and their wit along on what appears to be a Very Fun Day Indeed – to document their top ten places to read, photo-essay style! There was laughter, there were tears, there was a photo with a dildo backdrop for everyone’s mothers to see…
